NSF Advanced Networking Project With Minority-Serving Institutions

In September 1999, the Advanced Networking Infrastructure and Research division of NSF's Computer and Information Science and Engineering directorate awarded a four-year, $6 million grant (ANI-9980537) to EDUCAUSE, an association comprising more than 1,900 colleges, universities, and educational organizations, including 200 corporations. The overall goal of this project was to assist Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs) as they developed the campus infrastructure and national connections to become and remain full participants in the emerging Internet-based "Information Age."

The AN-MSI (Advanced Networking with Minority-Serving Institutions) grant officially closed on November 30, 2004. 124 MSIs participated in the project, including 40 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), 47 Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs), and 37 Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs). For more details of the project's accomplishments, please see the Summative Evaluation Report [ PDF* 138K ] for the AN-MSI Project.
